Resource Highlights

DPF regeneration is the process of burning off accumulated soot from the diesel particulate filter (DPF) to prevent it from clogging and reducing the engine's performance.

In this Masters of Motion video, our Delphi Expert shares tips on how to successfully perform DPF regeneration. Join us to discover:

  • How to check if DPF regeneration is needed
  • Why a manual regeneration might be required
  • How to perform a DPF regeneration

What is a DPF regeneration?

A DPF regeneration is the process of cleaning and emptying the diesel particulate filter (DPF).

Why does it need regeneration?

Over time the DPF can become clogged with soot and debris, which can prevent it from being as effective at trapping harmful particles.

Why is a manual regeneration needed?

The DPF can perform a self-regeneration, but sometimes this doesn’t happen, for example if the vehicle is only used for short journeys. If this is the case, manual regeneration is required.

Should I still perform a DPF regeneration even if one is not needed?

We do not recommend performing one if it’s not needed, as there is the possibility that some of the components become damaged during the process.
