Diesel Particulate Filters
Increasingly stringent emissions legislation continues to drive the demand for cleaner, greener and more fuel efficient vehicles. To meet these challenges, the Diesel Particulate Filter, or DPF, is designed to remove diesel particulate matter or soot from the exhaust gas of a diesel engine.

Resource Highlights
There are many different ways to test it. Here we’re looking at the seven main categories – what they are, how they work, and when they’re used.
Phil, our Delphi expert, walks you through them step by step. He gives you an overview of each:
- The static voltage test
- The light load voltage test
- Heavy load voltage test
- Capacity test
- Thermal management test
- Pressure test
- Physical/visual inspection
Why is EV battery testing needed?
Over time, EV battery capacity naturally fades. That means that over time, there’s less energy available to power the vehicle even if the battery is fully charged. Many customers will want to know (whether they are buying or selling a car) how much the battery has degraded over time.
How can Delphi help with EV battery testing?
A lot of OE tests can be run from a Delphi diagnostic kit like our DS480. This makes it easier to align your testing to manufacturer recommendations.
How can I help my customers to preserve their battery performance?
Recommend that they charge regularly and consistently, keeping the charge level above 20 per cent if possible, and avoiding going over 80% except for longer journeys. Also, they should use slow charging whenever possible.
