Resource Highlights

In this article, you will find out how Delphi' EGR valve technology helps the world’s leading vehicle manufacturers meet both current, and future targets for NOx.

In Europe, the Euro 6c and Euro 6d TEMP specifications, came into force in September 2017. And as with every change, the rules have become increasingly stringent. Whilst the limits are exactly the same, under the updated standards, new vehicles must demonstrate that they can meet original targets on NOx and particulate matter under even harsher test conditions. That means on the road as well as in the lab - a world-harmonized testing procedure called WLTP for Euro 6c and Real Driving Emissions (RDE) testing for Euro 6D TEMP.

The role of the EGR valve in NOx reduction.

These tests have meant that NOx reducing technologies are becoming increasingly important. One of these being the exhaust gas recirculation valve, or EGR valve for short. Integral to the vehicle’s engine management system, it allows a precise quantity of exhaust gas to re-enter the intake the system, effectively changing the chemical makeup of the air entering the engine. With less oxygen, the now diluted mixture burns slower, lowering temperatures in the combustion chamber by almost 150°C, and reducing NOx production for a cleaner, more efficient exhaust.

Delphi EGR valve technology.

With our proven electronically actuated EGR valve technology, we’re helping the world’s leading vehicle manufacturers meet both current, and future targets for NOx reduction. Fitted to millions of vehicles as OE, every one of our valves features fast opening and closing response times for enhanced engine control and lower emissions from reduced exhaust gas lag.

EGR valve top applications.

The best bit, these same parts are available in the aftermarket. And to meet the growing demand for replacement parts, we’ve also added more than 60 new EGR valves fitted to popular, high failure applications such as…
