There’s no doubting it - the market for hybrid electric vehicles is on the up.
There’s no doubting it - the market for hybrid electric vehicles is on the up.
And whilst admittedly they may not yet be the powertrain of choice, their share of new vehicle sales is growing at a rapid rate. Moreover, the parc of some of the first hybrid vehicles is already well established. The Toyota Prius, for example, is now over two decades old and requires servicing just as any other vehicle would. Combined, this makes for a significant service opportunity for garages.
Working with high voltage hybrid vehicle systems, however, has the potential to be extremely hazardous. Dangers such as high voltage components and cabling, as well as magnetic forces that may cause the electric motor or vehicle to move could result in a serious accident. Even the most routine of jobs such as replacing the brakes, will now require technicians to first make the car safe.
Specialist training and tooling is therefore critical.
The good news is that this training is already available from Delphi. Our IMI accredited hybrid vehicle training programme has been especially designed to give technicians the confidence and capability to work safely and effectively on hybrid systems. The two-day, practical, hands-on course teaches the fundamentals such as how to work safely on hybrid systems, fault finding, maintenance and repair of hybrid vehicles and hybrid systems, components and operation.
Upon successful completion of the course, delegates will gain IMI level 2 - hybrid maintenance and level 3 - hybrid repair qualifications, giving you the highly valuable skills and know-how to embrace this new and rapidly growing technology.
