2014-2019 (DS) RAM 1500 Pickup w 3.0 EcoDiesel Engine

The High-Pressure Fuel Pump (“HPFP”) involving the above vehicle may fail prematurely. As per NHTSA Reference: Z46 / NHTSA 22V-406, a HPFP failure may introduce internally failed component debris into the fuel system potentially causing fuel starvation. This debris is contaminating the fuel supply system causing the in-tank fuel module to stop working and supplying fuel to the HPFP. Simply replacing the in-tank fuel module FG1978 will not solve the problem, and the fuel module will fail prematurely due to the debris contamination.

These above metal shavings are found in the pump reservoir and filter assembly. Ingestion of metal shavings produced by a failing HPFP is not the fault of the in-tank module FG1978.

Debris in the fuel system causes the pump to fail.

Stellantis has released a Safety Recall notice on this matter – Recall 01A, Z46 or Z96 Engine High-Pressure Fuel Pump Repair. It is necessary to replace the HPFP, and inspect and replace, if necessary, additional contaminated fuel system components.
