What causes a faulty Tesla door handle?

The problem could be caused by a malfunctioning sensor, actuator, wiring, or computer program.

Do I need to be high-voltage qualified to work on this particularly model?

No you don’t. It’s a common misconception!

Why does the Tesla have retracting door handles?

The Model S has a low aerodynamic drag figure.  Retracting door handles are one of the ways Tesla uses to achieve this.  They retract when the vehicle sets off, and open automatically when you approach the driver’s door with your key.
