Resource Highlights
Here we’re taking a look at how you test individual high voltage battery modules safely.
Watch as Matt, our Delphi expert, walks you through the testing process from start to finish on a BMW 330e in our latest Masters of Motion video. He shows you:
- What you need to do to make the vehicle safe before you start
- How to gain access to the HV battery
- Disconnecting the 12V battery
- Removing the battery cover and then the battery module
- Checking the voltage value on the removed battery module
Why do the battery modules need to be removed from the vehicle?
Vehicles vary, but on the one we’re looking at in the video above, only maximum and minimum values are available via standard diagnostics, with no access to individual cells or modules.
Do I need to wear PPE to remove an HV battery?
Yes – it’s essential. in the video above, Matt shows you what to wear and how to test it.
Is the procedure the same for all vehicles?
Not necessarily. Always check the manufacturer’s service guidance for specific removal instructions for the make and model you’re working on.
