Precision is crucial when it comes to wheel alignment. Any inaccuracy can have a noticeable impact on a vehicle’s handling. For this reason, alignment can be a complex task, and there is a sequence to follow if you want to get it right first time.

In this video, Phil, our Delphi expert, walks you through it step by step on a Mercedes, with the help of DS Hub. There’s a crucial step for this model that is often missed by technicians: using an inclinometer to get the precise angles you need. Watch this video to see how it’s done.

What is the impact of poor wheel alignment?

The obvious one is the handling of the car which will be affected. But the most important impact is safety. Poor alignment can cause the car to steer inaccurately or unpredictably. Finally, misaligned wheels can also result in increased tyre wear.

What are signs of wheel misalignment?

The most obvious symptoms that may suggest misalignment are:

  • Vehicle pulls to the left or right
  • The steering wheel is off-center when driving in a straight line
  • Steering wheel vibration
  • Abnormal or uneven tread wear on the tyres

Why is using an inclinometer important?

The inclinometer helps you configure the toe, camber and caster angles that you need to set on your vehicle. Without doing this before you begin, your alignment could be inaccurate.
