The importance of fixing screws in brake discs

Share Resource:

Resource Highlights

The fixing screw holds the brake disc in place on the wheel hub during assembly. It keeps the disc properly aligned and stops it from moving before the wheel bolts are installed. It sounds simple enough, but try installing a disc without one. It’s fiddly and far from ideal.

Why We Include Fixing Screws in Brake Discs

Innovation means many things.

Sometimes, it’s a first-of-a-kind feature. Other times, it’s about getting the small things just right. Both make all the difference in the workshop, and both are a high priority for the team here at Delphi.

That’s why we are one of the few premium European disc ranges that include fixing screws in our brake discs which is content over and above the OE.

Advantages of Replacing the Brake Disc Fixing Screw with a New One:

Designed with Technicians in Mind

There’s more to producing parts than on-road performance and longevity. These things are hugely important, but so are the technicians installing and fixing vehicles.

When time matters and pressure’s on, having the right screw in the box saves hassle and keeps things moving full force ahead.

Not Everyone Includes Them, but We Do

Despite the difference they make to the technician’s experience, most brands leave the fixing screws out.

At Delphi, we’ve taken a different approach. We know what matters to technicians, and in 2024, we made a serious push to include fixing screws in the box where they’re needed.

Last year, we added fixing screws to over 700 part numbers. That brings our total to more than 1,000, with those covering over 98% of vehicles that actually require them during installation.

Zooming out, we’ve got 1,900+ live brake disc part numbers and 98.61% European VIO coverage. Our coverage is strong - #1 in coverage across Europe, and we’re not slowing down anytime soon.

Our Ongoing Commitment

Going forward, every new brake disc part number that needs a fixing screw will come with one. No exceptions. It’s one more way we’re setting ourselves apart and staying ahead of the curve.

Innovating to make the technician’s life easier - that’s the Delphi difference.

  1. Prevents seizing or corrosion

Old screws, especially on vehicles used in humid or salty environments, can corrode or seize. Reusing them may result in breakage or difficulty during future removal.
  2. Avoids deformation or wear of the original screw

Fixing screws can suffer from thread wear or damage to the head (especially if over-tightened or the wrong tool was used), making future removal harder.
  3. Ensures proper torque

Some screws - especially those with anti-loosening coatings or single-use designs - may not perform as intended if reused.
  4. Complies with vehicles manufacturer recommendations

Certain manufacturers recommend systematic replacement of the screw as part of best maintenance practices, even if it’s not strictly required.
