Onboard charger

Delphi onboard charger is an aftermarket solution for plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) and battery electric vehicles (BEV) that converts AC to DC in order to charge the traction battery pack.

Since 2015, Delphi offers a wide range of AC/DC onboard chargers in production that support fast charging for plug-in hybrid and battery electric vehicles. We apply the same technological expertise to our aftermarket onboard chargers for exact OE performance.

What is an onboard charger for an electric vehicle?

Unlike internal combustion engines, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) and battery electric vehicles (BEV) use an electric traction motor to drive the vehicle’s wheels. The onboard charger charges the traction battery pack, and the energy stored in the battery is then used to power the electric motor.

When an electric vehicle is plugged into a household outlet or a level 2 charger, the charging cable pulls alternating current (AC) from the power grid and sends it to the onboard charger. In order to store the electric power in the battery, the onboard charger must then convert AC to direct current (DC).

Additionally, the onboard charger monitors voltage, current, temperature, and state of charge while charging for the safety of the electrical system and the driver.

Resource Highlights

In this article, you will find out about how to stick an EGR valve on Renault Clio.

Vehicle Applications

System

Renault

Clio, Modus, Megane, Kangoo 1.5 dCi (2001 to 2005)

Diesel Systems

Summary

Engine running rough or laboring following an extended period of short journeys. This is often caused by soot build-up on the EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) which sticks the valve in the closed or more importantly open condition.

Fault code

Fault

Possible Causes

P0400

  • No exhaust gas recirculation.
  • Expected performance not reached.
  • Engine goes into limp home mode.

The EGR valve does not open

P0401

Too little exhaust gas is being recirculated

  • The EGR valve does not open wide enough.
  • Width restricted by impurities (carbonization).
  • EGR valve opening time too short
  • Air mass sensor defective or soiled.

P0402

Excessive exhaust gas recirculation

  • The EGR valve deviates from the correct point when open.
  • The valve does not close properly.
  • The Air Mass sensor is defective.

P0403

EGR signals wrong or implausible

  • Wear or soiling of the potentiometer in the EGR valve assembly.
  • The temperature sensor is defective.

P0404

  • Exhaust gas recirculation is out of correct position.
  • EGR signals are wrong or implausible.
  • Wear or soiling of potentiometer, pressure sensor, temperature sensor or Air Mass sensor.

Resolution

One of the most frequent causes of problems with EGR valve operation is deposits in the valve or seat.

  1. The valve can be stuck closed, or
  2. deposits have caused the opening width to be reduced, or
  3. the valve does not open completely.
